PSA Nonprofit Service: PSA Club Service
Many photography clubs and councils enjoy some community service and make it a part of their schedule. PSA provides a Consultant to help member clubs refine or begin these projects. To encourage this activity, PSA features the community service of member clubs in Focus articles in the PSA Journal. PSA also recognizes the community service efforts of PSA-member clubs with the presentation of Club Service Awards at the PSA Annual Conference.
Some PSA-member clubs teach photography or Photoshop classes at no charge for youngsters or at Senior Centers. There are clubs that prepare print photo galleries for local hospitals, Community Centers, or senior facilities. Photography clubs have offered their services at no charge to photograph animals for adoption at shelters, children at school events, or glamour shots for cancer survivors.
Many clubs offer their services to photograph school activities (e.g., band practice, sport team drill, drama group rehearsal) for promotional pieces to raise money for uniforms or supplies. PSA-member clubs photograph disadvantaged families at the holidays and provide the family with free prints. A PSA-member club became the event photographer for a Warrior’s Weekend, a Veterans’ outing, and took over 8000 photographs of the weekend activities that were shared with all attending. Clubs have donated their members' prints for auction to raise money for relief efforts. Other clubs prepare photo shows specifically to share with community groups.
