The six prestigious Society Recognition Memorial Awards are: John Doscher, Victor Scales, Stuyvesant Peabody, International Understanding Through Photography, PSA Appreciation, and Early Achievement.

John Doscher
Memorial Award
|
The award is presented annually to the member who has made an outstanding or unique contribution to pictorial photography. Classical photography as defined for this award pertains to any photographic medium. The subjects may include, but are not limited to, still life, pictorial, nature, and portraiture. Barbara Doscher and Arthur P. Henricks Jr. Hon. PSA, FPSA established this award in 1981, in memory of a husband, friend, and long-time member of PSA.

Victor Scales
Memorial Award
|
The award is presented to a PSA member who has provided similar service to PSA over an extensive period of time. This award was initiated in 1962 in memory of Victor Scales who provided a great deal of service to PSA through the many positions he held.

Stuyvesant Peabody Memorial Award
|
This award recognizes a member of PSA who has contributed significantly to pictorial photography in any field of photographic endeavor (by exhibiting, judging, lecturing, writing, teaching, patents and processes). Stuyvesant’s son, Patrick H. Peabody, in memory of his father who stimulated the era of pictorial photography, originated the award. The award has been continued through a generous gift by Mary A. Mallas, FPSA.

PSA Appreciation Award
|
This award is presented in recognition of outstanding service in the advancement of photography by teaching with no financial compensation. Drs. Samuel and Evelyn Ross in memory of Helen Manzer, FPSA, established this award in 1972. Those former students wanted to honor her in recognition of their admiration of her teaching. The award is to serve as a continuing tribute to persons who have given freely of their time and efforts in the field of teaching.

Early Achievement Award
|
The award is presented to a person who has been a PSA member from three to five years. The recipient must have contributed significantly in several photographic areas such as teaching, enlisting new PSA members, creating programs, and by demonstrating competency and leadership. This new award was established in 2001 by a gift from an anonymous donor.

International Understanding Through Photography
|
The International Understanding Through Photography Award is for a PSA member or a non-member who has made a real difference in the world of photography. Formerly a Photojournalism Division Award, the IUTP Award has previously honored well- known international photojournalists.
