The winner for August is Julie Green and White by Larry Cowles, FPSA. GMPSA, of Corona, CA. Despite the title, it is the First Place Star Mono.

Our judge, Tom Hady, APSA, MPSA, asks: “Is this a striking portrait of a young lady or a portrait of a striking young lady? Who cares? It’s a strikingly attractive picture! Those eyes grab your attention and hold it. The hat could be “busy” in other contexts, but here it seems just right—and the angle adds to the composition. Everything that needs to be sharp, is sharp. The tones are textbook “good monochrome,” from white to black and every tone in between. An outstanding pictorial portrait”.
