lee_pratt_j.jpg A sequence or photo essay is a group of from two (2) to eighteen (18) stereo images with a text and/or music. Sequences might also be called photo essays, photo-poems or songs, photo stories, or mood pieces. Sequences are vehicles for conveying something from the mind of the maker to others more effectively than is possible with a single image. The 3D Division Sequence Competition has been a slide program with audio cassette tapes and/or audio CDs since the 1960's. Beginning in 2011 entries for this competition are submitted in digital format, either on CDs or by email.

Eligibility & Rules

This year's submission deadline: July 11, 2013

The 3D Division Sequence Competition is open to all PSA members. Each member can enter from one (1) to three (3) sequences each year.

There is no restriction regarding the subject matter. Two people may collaborate on a single sequence. Entries must originate as photographs (image-captures of objects via light sensitivity) made by the entrant on photographic emulsion or acquired digitally. Images may be altered, either electronically or otherwise, by the maker and artwork or computer graphics created by the entrant may also be incorporated if the photographic content predominates.

The entrant may provide a recorded cassette tape or CD to accompany the sequence. This tape/CD will be played during the judging, and incorporated into the final exhibition tape if accepted. Tapes or CDs may contain narration, background music, sound effects, and/or any other audible feature, making the entry a total audio-visual package.

A specific essay or travelette may be submitted to only one PSA division each year. The same essay or travelette may be submitted to another division's essay competition in another year.

Acceptances

Accepted sequences will receive acceptances toward PSA 3D Star Ratings, but are not credited toward PSA's annual Who's Who in Photography. Each accepted sequence is credited with three (3) acceptances and two (2) title credits. The First, Second, and Third place sequences will each receive four (4) acceptances and two (2) title credits. Regardless of how many sequences are entered and accepted, the maximum number of credits for all accepted sequences by an entrant each year is eight (8) acceptances and four (4) title credits. Acceptance credit for accepted sequences made by multiple makers will be divided equally between the makers. For odd numbers of acceptances in a sequence, the first listed maker will be assumed to be the primary maker, and will receive the extra acceptance credit.
