The Travelette Competition is the current form of the PSA Photo Travel Division's long-running mini-show contest. Dubbed "Travelettes" when first introduced to filmmakers, today's PSA members make short digital shows of favorite travels using ProShow Gold or Producer, Power Point, or similar software.

Eligibility & Rules

All entrants must be Individual members of PSA. The maker’s name may not appear in the Travelette, but should be on the disc submitted. All images must be made in a camera by the entrant (or scanned from the maker’s own transparency or negative). The use of copies of photographs or artwork which are part of an exhibit that explains the site being featured is permitted if they are a small portion of the show and help tell the story. No show may be longer than five (5) minutes and may include music and/or narration. Royalty-Free music is preferred and only winners with Royalty Free music will be posted on the PSA website. Submission may be on a CD or DVD. Travelettes can be burned as a DVD video playable on any DVD player or can be saved as a video file which is burned as a CD data disc. Acceptable video file formats are avi, wmv, or mov. Unacceptable file formats are exe and ppt.

There are three categories in the Travelette Competition and you may enter one show in each category. However, a specific essay or travelette may be submitted to only one PSA Division each year. The same essay or travelette may be entered in another Division in another year. The categories are:
  • Color anywhere in North America
  • Color anywhere in the rest of the World
  • Monochrome—NO color is allowed anywhere in this category, including the titles & credits

Helpful Hints

Entrants should be sure that the burned CD or DVD actually plays. Using title slides that the entrant makes rather than any provided by a program are usually more effective. These can be on a photo that goes with the show. You may use any program that works for you and there are some available at little or no cost on the Internet.

Entry Forms

Download and complete one Entry Form (available as a PDF or Word doc) for each Travelette submitted. A completed Entry Form needs to be mailed with each CD/DVD; however, more than one CD/DVD and Entry Form may be mailed in the same package. Mailing instructions can be found at the bottom of the Entry Form.

As stated above, a specific essay or travelette may be submitted to only one PSA division each year. The same essay or travelette may be submitted to another division’s essay competition in another year.

Awards

The winning Travelettes are presented at the PSA Annual Conference
  • Grand Prize—best of all Travelettes
  • Silver awards in each category
  • Honor ribbons depending upon number of entries
  • Grand Prize will be posted on the PTD website only if the music is Royalty Free
