Photo Travel Division (PTD): Basics & Background

The Photo Travel Division was formed in 1972 to give photographers who love to travel the opportunity to build their skills as travel photographers, to provide educational resources and competition opportunities for travel images, and to promote fellowship and understanding among photographers worldwide.


Definition 
A Photo Travel image must express the feeling of a time and place, and portray a land, its distinctive features or culture in its natural state. There are no geographical limitations. Closeup pictures of people or objects must include distinguishable environment. Techniques that add to, relocate, replace or remove any element of the original image, except by cropping, are not permitted. All adjustments must appear natural. Conversion to full monochrome is acceptable. Derivations, including infrared, are unacceptable.

Division Membership
PSA members qualify for membership in the Photo Travel Division (PTD) by: holding a past or present PTD elected Office, being the Director of an activity in the PTD, earning a Star Rating in the PTD, participating in the Travelette Competition in the PTD, or participating in a Study Group in the PTD.

Van Gelder Award 
Since 2001 the Van Gelder Award has been presented for the Best Set of four images by one maker which were accepted in the General Section of the PSA Exhibition.
