Divisions: Overview As a leader in the development of Exhibition Standards that serve as the guidelines for the conduct of photography exhibitions around the world, PSA addressed the differences between pictorial images; Nature, Photo Travel, and Photojournalism (reality-based images); and 3D, print, and projected (format crucial) images. It has been the business of the PSA Divisions to standardize exhibitions for a given area, share knowledge regarding their special area, and recognize excellence in that specialty. The Divisions were described in an article that was written as part of the celebration of PSA’s 75th anniversary. This article provides a historical prospective for anyone wanting to learn or improve their skills in a specific area. This article also helps anyone considering entering an exhibition or hosting an exhibition to understand the definition and kinds of treatments that are allowed in each special area. The six PSA divisions that are active today have had similar paths of development and have learned from one another. In the early years each division had an editor responsible for sections of the PSA Journal and some divisions had separate dues. Today PSA members may belong to as many divisions as they wish. Participating in any division activity, fulfilling a volunteer role, or earning a star/galaxy rating within the division generally establishes membership.
