PSA History: CPID and EID Divisions

Both the CPID (Color Projected Image Division) and EID (Electronic Imaging Division) were combined in September of 2012, to form a new division, the PID (Projected Image Division). In recognition of the contributions made by many PSA volunteers, we include here a list of previous chairs and other important contributions made in the individual divisions.

1941   Color Division Formed  
1943   First Color Slide Salon in December
1944   First three slide circuits established with ten members each
1945   Free slide criticism service and color print classes established
1945   Division recommended standards for slide exhibitions
1945   First Color Division "Who's Who" published
1956   Wightman Award established for best photo essay
1964   Color Division became Color Slide Division and Color Prints became part of Pictorial Divison, renamed Pictorial Print Division
1967   First Contemporary Medal Awarded
1971   Wightman Award changed to Photo Essay Contest Award
1975   PSA Gold Medal awarded in CSD Section of PSA International Exhibition
1996   First Heartland Digital Circuit International received recognition from Color Slide Division
1997   Digital Imaging Slide Study Group formed in Color Slide Division
2000   Contemporary Medal name changed to Creative Medal and new definition adopted
2000   First PSA International to have two Color Slide sections, Open and Creative
2006   Color Slide Division name changed to Color Projected Image Division
2006   Dual Projection Introduced as a transition mode from Color Slides to Digital Images
2008   First Dual Projection CPID section of PSA International
2008   Last CPID PSA Exhibition catalog in hard copy
2009   Fees eliminated for Division activities

1997   Electronic Imaging Division formed
1997   Internet Digital Study Circuits begin
1998   Digital Imaging Gallery Initiated
1998   Electronic Imaging Division online forum begins
1998   Instructional Videos on Photoshop available for rental
2000   Video/Motion Picture Division merged with Electronic Imaging Division
2001   First EID-Video Section of PSA International
2002   First EID exhibition, Suncoast Virtual Salon. Entry forms and images accepted via Internet
2002   First EID Section of PSA International
2003   First EID Star Ratings earned
2004   EID Individual Creative Competition begins
2004   Set of computer programs to manage a digital exhibition online made available
2005   EID Exhibition Catalogs on CD made available for rental or purchase
2007   First Annual EID Photo Essay Competition begins
2009   One-On-One Evaluation of digital Images offered
2009   2008 EID of the Year judged at Yellowstone Conference. Best of EID-2008 free CD available
2010   First EID Galaxy Award earned
2010   EID Exhibition Database Milestone reached with 100,000 acceptances
