In September, PSA celebrated the Society’s 75th Anniversary with an exciting week of programs, photo tours, and activities at the 2009 PSA Conference. Conference attendance was 617, the largest attendance since 1994, including over 200 first-time conference attendees. The conference attendance also included 65 visitors from 14 foreign countries, including Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, England, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Pakistan, Singapore, South Africa, Switzerland, United Kingdom, and Vietnam. All agreed that the conference highlights were the photo opportunities provided in Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks.
Other highlights were conference featured presenters George Lepp, John and Barbara Gerlach, Barrie Wilkins and Jill Sneesby, Art Wolfe, and Julieanne Kost. About 50 PSAers also presented programs. The conference print exhibit displayed about 1,000 photographic prints, including the PSA International Print Exhibition, the PSA Youth Showcase prints, prints from the PSA Print Collection, and exhibits sponsored by PSA’s Pictorial Print Division. Digital imaging classes included Intermediate Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, Pro Show Gold, and Lightroom. The conference offered five daily photo tours to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks, and over 600 “tourists” participated in these tours.
Special 75th Anniversary events at this year's conference included the PSA "75 Years of PSA"
program, a program highlighting the Society's 75th Anniversary Book, and a Sunday evening
anniversary party. The Opening Ceremonies recognized the Society’s many volunteers and award winners. The Society Recognition Awards were also presented at the Opening Ceremonies. The conference concluded with the Saturday evening Honors Banquet recognizing this year’s recipients of PSA honors.
